It’s suddenly the first week of August and we are wondering where the summer went—but that’s okay because there is no shortage of events this month to carry you through to fall. ⛵️ Calgary Dragon Boat Race & Festival: Calgary’s premiere water sport festival is back with more than 1,800 competitors and 4,000 spectators watching this family-friendly event. Aug 9-11 at North Glenmore Park.

🎆 GlobalFest Fireworks and Culture Festival: The popular cultural event on your calendars for global fireworks, food, and culture. Aug 15-24 at Elliston Park.

😆 The Great Outdoors Comedy Festival: Back for the third year, this popular comedy festival is taking over the island again with headliners Russell Peters, Tom Segura, and Iliza Shlesinger headlining each night. Aug 23-25 at Prince's Island Park.

🍖Brewery & the Beast: An all-inclusive feast of meat-focused dishes created by more than 50 of the city’s best restaurants with a top-notch roster of refreshing beverages to quench your thirst. Aug 25 at the Confluence Historic Site.

🎭️ Jubilations Friends a Parody with Ace Ventura: There’s just another week left of this popular dinner theatre comedy production before the theatre’s newest production takes over the stage. Check it out before it’s gone! And while you’re at it, don’t forget to snap up your tickets for More Greased, running Aug 17 to Oct 19.

We hope you’re hungry because one of our favourite food events is back, so get ready to sample different food and drinks while also listening to live music and shop at local market vendors for four days.

Friday to Aug 10 | Various locations in Inglewood

The first Fringe started in Edinburgh, Scotland in 1947 and has grown into one of the biggest performing arts festivals in the world with the second-largest in Edmonton. There’s something for everyone at this cultural fest.

Saturday to Monday | Bowness

Happening over the course of three days, this racing event provides local athletes with an opportunity to showcase their abilities and celebrate with the greater community before the final race happening on Monday in Bowness where spectators can watch riders compete for the winning cash prize. [Free] 

4M STEAM: Dig a T-Rex Skeleton | Wednesday | 3-4pm

This archaeological mini dig workshop is designed for ages 7+ and includes all the materials and guidance needed to excavate a dinosaur skeleton from plaster while learning about the prehistoric era. [$5] 

Be entertained by local talent while enjoying delicious drinks at Cold Garden during this karaoke comedy event where humour takes centre stage and singing along to the greatest hits is encouraged in the spirit of fun. [$23] 

TD Thank You Drone Show | Thursday | 9:45-10:15pm

Presented by TD in celebration of their 10th annual Thank You Campaign, there will be a 30-minute drone show visible from Millennium Park where spectators will be able to scan a QR code from the sky for a chance to win concert tickets, free coffee, and so much more. [Free] 

Incredible India Fest | Saturday | 12:30-6:30pm

The Westin Airport location is thrilled to present the third Annual Incredible India Fest where the vibrancy, traditions, and uniqueness of India come alive with musical performances that showcase the cultural heritage of India and visitors can indulge in authentic flavours while exploring a range of activities. [Free admission] 

X92.9 Presents: Libations Fest  | Saturday | 12:30-4:30pm

Taking place at the Century Downs Racetrack and Casino, X92.9 is proud to be supporting the HRA Backstretch Foundation with proceeds from admission to this indulgent event where attendees can expect to sample a variety of international wines, local beers and ciders and have a chance to win a brewery tour and merch. California Dreaming Pool Party | Saturday | 6:30-9:45pm

The Mount Pleasant Community Pool is hosting a pool party for sober adults where clean California fun with swimming, music, burgers and drinks are included in the ticket price and prizes will be given for the best dressed. [$10] 

Flight By Night at Weaselhead | Saturday | 8pm-midnight

Explore the biodiversity of Weaselhead at night and capture some moth-ificent photographs while learning about nocturnal insects and moth lighting during a guided trail hike where attendees can participate in the research of this beautiful landscape. [$7] 

Tango 2 Echo Fest & Car Show | Sunday | 10am-4pm

Peruse over 150 cars ranging from classic hot rods to modern sports racers at this BIA-initiated event that aims to engage greater Calgary with the Greenview Industrial Area by hosting this family friendly afternoon event including an art market and installations, live music, food and more. [Free to attend] 

The LEGO® Store at Chinook Mall is hoping to get kids excited to go back to school with this make it and take it activity where participants will get to build their own LEGO® apple to keep. [Free] 

Presented by Shane Homes, the annual Heritage Night Game happening between the Calgary Stampeders and the Toronto Argonauts and taking place at McMahon Stadium is an opportunity for new Calgarians to learn about the game of football while enjoying a night market before kickoff at this unique community building event. [Starting at $26] 

Mini Poetry Slam | Sunday | 9:15-11pm

The Calgary Poetry Slam is excited to host a mini slam event at Calgary Fringe where six poets will be selected to compete for the winning spot in support of the Writers Guild of Alberta where first and second place have the opportunity to win cash prizes and tickets to this event are made accessible with a Pay What You Can pricing option. Celebrating 45 years of multicultural uniqueness and taking place at Olympic Plaza, Calgarians are invited to support local artisans and try authentic flavours from around the world while enjoying a variety of performances under the summer sun. [Free]
