Happy Tuesday, friends. And just like that, it’s the last week of August. Lucky for us, September is our favourite month in Calgary with no shortage of fun things to do. We’d love to know what you think of this newsletter with a review down below. Send your events to [email protected].

🎤 2nd Annual Stand Up For Vets Comedy Event: Five legendary Canadian comedians take the stage to support Canada’s Veteran community with a night of comedy and laughs. Sept 6 at the Jack Singer Concert Hall.

🐕️ Parkdale Petfest: This annual event just keeps getting bigger and better since its launch in 2017 by a group of pet enthusiasts living in the community. Bring your dogs for a day of fun. Sept 7 at the Parkdale Community Association.

🧪 Beakerhead at Spark: This year, this popular art and science installation event is offering attendees the option of enjoying a daytime experience suited for families or exploring the event after dark with two premium night events. Sept 20-24 at The Telus Science Centre.

🍺 Cochrane Oktoberfest 2024: Cochrane's Annual Oktoberfest is back (celebrated early!) with endless steins, live music, games, and snacks. Sept 21 at Cochrane Lions Club and Event Centre.

📽️ Peter Dinklage at the Calgary International Film Festival: Actor Peter Dinklage is part of the cast of The Thicket, which was filmed in and around Calgary and makes its Canadian premiere as the Opening Night Gala film of the 2024 Calgary International Film Festival. Dinklage himself will be attending! Sept 19 at Jack Singer Concert Hall.

Wednesday | Genesis Centre | 5:30-9:30pm

This food truck frenzy features a wide array of options for everyone including gluten-free, vegetarian, vegan, and halal options, and there will be live entertainment, activities, and plenty of tables and seating available.

Until Sunday | Stage West | Various times

It’s your last chance to catch this beautiful production about one of the all-time legends of country music to the stage. Patsy Cline was always spunky and devoted to music and her legacy spans generations alike with her charm, humour, and unmistakable voice.

Saturday and Sunday | Prince’s Island Park | Various times

Celebrate Calgary’s Pride with a variety of events happening throughout the city, including the official two-day pride parade and festival this weekend.

A non-profit local charity named Youth en Route is excited to celebrate the accomplishments of their education assistant, Kauther, who will be distributing bicycles to those who need them at the Imam Ali Association located on 48th Street SE as a way of giving back to her community. Stoney Nakoda Powwow Demonstration | Wednesday | 11am-noon

The Crowfoot Library invites everyone to learn about traditional Powwow practices, rituals, and significance while experiencing the rhythms of Indigenous drumming and dancing in this community building event. [Free to attend]

The wonderful crew at Tool Shed Brewing Company is hosting a special collaboration with Origin Malting Co. to create a unique brew where the proceeds will be used to support the employees from Ol’ Beautiful who were impacted in the June 30 fire and patrons can enjoy live music and $8 Polite Night Charity Pints. [Free to attend]

This spooky paint night happening at The Coup is perfect for all Harry Potter fans as attendees will cozy up with their favourite beverage and paint the iconic Sorting Hat with guidance from experienced artists. [$45]

This inspiring event is hosted by Alberta IoT, Moby Networks and Porch and aims to educate the community about agricultural innovations while connecting with industry experts and exploring concepts such as farm to fork programs and food technology. [$82]    

cSpace August Beer Garden | Thursday | 6-9pm

The powerhouse sounds of the Kirby Sewell blues band will entertain audiences as they sip on refreshing drinks from the cash bar and enjoy live entertainment while connecting with others. [Free to attend]  

Bridgeland Night Market | Friday | 5:30-10:30pm

This is the last night market of the season for the Bridgeland Riverside Community Association featuring local vendors and businesses that offer incredible handmade items in a casual space that is great for mingling. [Free to attend]

It may seem early to think about Christmas however, the A&W Cruising at the Junction crew is preparing for the season by hosting a toy drive at their locally famous car show where the Christmas Truck will be accepting unwrapped new toys and attendees can enjoy the sights of classic cars. [Free]

The Bank & Baron Pub is excited to present a Scottish style event featuring the Celtic ensemble and Pipe Band called Slainte Social Club where attendees can enjoy drinks, food, and enter a WestJet flight raffle. [$20]

Fiesta Filipino | Friday-Sunday | Various times

Celebrating their 10th-anniversary, the annual Fiesta Filipino is back at Olympic Plaza and offering three days of free family fun with live music, local artisans, cultural exhibits, and so much more to entertain and educate with games and prizes to be won. [Free to attend]

World Folklore Festival | Saturday-Sunday | Various times

Indulge the senses in an unforgettable way at New Horizon Mall with an energetic lineup of music, dances, and entertainment from around the world at this multicultural event aimed to spread joy and good vibes. [Free to attend]

The King Eddy Stage welcomes the electrifying sounds of Brett Spaulding and The Psychic Spies, who have been described as a genre-blending band that utilize the rhythms of rock, blues, funk, electric and more to create a unique and dynamic show. [$20]

Alberta Day at Heritage Park | Sunday | 10am-9:30pm

To celebrate Alberta Day, Heritage Park is hosting a family-friendly event featuring live music, engaging activities for kids and a live drone show to dazzle audiences along with special pricing on the S.S. Moyie and Midway Ride pass. [Free with registration]

Support local food banks with the District Labour Council by donating non-perishable food items to the CDLC located on 26 Street to help fill the van and provide nourishment to those who need it. [By donation]
